I Want One Of Those Price Crash!

From the 10th of July we are dropping prices for one week only on 3 amazing products:

Mosquito 3.0
Was £49.99 NOW ONLY £29.95!

This six legged, orange-eyed exceptional 3 channel flier has cutting edge micro-motor technology and patented dual-rotor design, and is the most precise and stable helicopter system yet! Not only is it guaranteed to be non-malarial, it’s also Deet-proof - although a heavy dose of spray could, and probably would, royally screw up the finely tuned electronics. The control you can achieve with this top flier is truly superb due to its exceptionally smooth motor system, allowing for very smooth take offs and landings, and precise forward and reverse control.

Limbo String
Was £19.99 NOW ONLY £12.99

Liven up parties and outdoor get togethers with some spontaneous limbo fun with this clever contraption. At the click of a button the multi-coloured string whizzes into action creating a fluorescent arch that you lean backwards and dance through. Remember no touching of the string or you’re out. You don’t even need a stereo as the Limbo String has it’s very own Limbo Music to get you shaking to the groove. With a twist of the dial the string gets lower and the stakes get higher, so you might want to make sure everybody puts their drinks down: it could get messy! If you’re playing in the dark then why not flick on the black lights and everyone will be able to see the vivid dayglo string whipping its way through the air. For even more fun you can take the Limbo String out of its base and use it hand-held. It’s dead clever and will turn any party into a night everyone will remember for a long time - even if it’s because half your guests ended up in traction.

It’s mains powered, so you’ll have no flat battery or recharging problems, and is the alarm clock for the iPod generation. Wake up to something more tuneful than a bell or a beep, and considerably less depressing than the news.

Google Fights: Can You Guess Which Keyword Is King?

Super advanced web technology has found a great new way of wasting time - the Google Fight website. What a find, I’m impressed! Now you can see what is bigger on Google - Marilyn Manson or Mariln Monroe? Tyson or Ali? The pen or the sword? God or Satan? And of course, the all important Big Question. Well, no surprises there!

Have fun

IWOOT Amongst The Top 5 Fathers Day Sites

Not sure how this bit of info is useful to you, our lovely affiliates, but Hitwise have announced the top recipients of Fathers Day traffic. They looked at 479 sites and decided that IWOOT was in at number.. 5! Brilliant. Here’s even a picture from Hitwise on Twitter to help grasp the idea.

I’m 46% Right

I was thinking about our bestsellers and how I try to give affiliates an indication of what is going to sell around particular sales periods. Hope you find them helpful!

The art of predicting a bestseller is.. well, an art. I mean, how can you tell what people are actually going to buy? I’ve heard of ways of guesstimating this and in fact there are quite a few guys around our office who get paid to know which products will sell. I have a simpler approach, using more Analytics data and less hunches, feelings and intuition.

So I decided to have a look at my last list of Top 25 Fathers Day Bestsellers and see how many of them actually made it to the top this Fathers Day. I expected to boast about how right I was, but the results seem to suggest differently:

Top 25 Bestsellers Was It Really?
Film to SD Scanner Yes
Son of Hibachi BBQ Yes
Portable Barbeques Yes
Lanterns Yes
Retro Sweet Hamper Yes
AQ Wireless Outdoor Speakers Nope
Grilliput - Grilliput and Firebowl Nope
Hexbug Nope
Henry the Hoover Nope
Zpen Yes
SLP2 Survival Tool Nope
The Intelligent Wine Cooler Yes
Fridge Magnet Photo Frame Nope
Retro Sweet Jar Nope
PocketSurfer 2 R Nope
Stealth Speed Boat Nope
iBlock Speaker Yes
VCR to PC Nope
Pen Fishing Rod Yes
Gnome Bowling Nope
Solar Charger Yes
Instant Music Vinyl and Cassette Ripper Yes
Sat Nag Yes
Retro Telephones Nope
Stylophone Nope
Trace Me Luggage Tag Nope

So out of my Top 25, I got 46% right, or 12 products, and I got 14 wrong. I mean, you should get suspicious at this point, as my Top 25 list contains 26 products. It’s not that 14 of the products were rubbish, they weren’t and many of them sold extremely well. The fact is that the following 14 products just sold better:

The Grillslinger
U Record Music Convertor
Laird of Glencairn
Vinturi Wine Aerator
Digital Photoframe Keyring
Ergo Digital Luggage Scale
Gamucci Micro Electronic Cigarette
BBQ Sword
Sound Asleep Pillows
Lightsabre Umbrella
Guitar Rock Star
Beer Machine
RolerBall (mm, imagine the commission!)
Digital Photo Albums

So what’s the moral of the story? That you are better off doing exactly the opposite of what I say? No, I think the key here is to really think about the products you use in your emails or websites. Bestsellers will be different for each of your audiences and to nail down what works best you need a combination of common sense, intuition and testing. So use my suggestions, but do have a browse through the site yourself too.

Lastly, if you do feature our products frequently and would like to run a competition for your users to win something from IWOOT, drop me a line and maybe we can donate something.

Blog, Digg, Poke & Follow

Recently all IWOOTers here have gone web 2.0 crazy and we in Marketing are no longer the only ones to blog, digg, poke and follow. Yesterday we even met a company so advanced in their digital ways that the proposed “blogging/retwittering sort-of-aggregator-type social platform” confused even their own salesmen. In any case, I’m just hoping that these ever smarter web toys don’t decide one day to rise against humanity, claim independence and enslave us all to link-build eternally. (I know, I know, they already have.)

Not sure how I got sidetracked into such Apocalyptic visions, when I in fact wanted to show you all the new stuff that’s going on. First, we have a new blog. Beautifully designed and quickly getting filed up with strange posts, it’s the official IWOOT blog. Next, IWOOT is twittering - please do follow us there, we need support for our young Twitter account. (I am even authorised to bribe you dear affiliates with branded 5% discounts..) And there’s more - our Facebook page has been resurrected from the dead and has been given a good dusting. It is now so presentable and up-to-date that I can share it with you - click here. Lastly, if YouTube is your thing, join us on our channel.

And before I leave you to continue your wonder around the net - have you noticed the Fathers Day traffic?! All these faithful sons and daughters buying solar chargers and lights, music gadgets and helicopters? Fathers Day is definitely in full swing, so grab some of our banners and join the party!
